HAPPY BIRTHDAY ALAN!

So last Thursday my husband officially became a grown-up! That's right, the big 30! We didn't do much and I felt a little guilty that maybe we should have made a bigger deal of it. Oh well. We had the family over for cake and ice cream that evening.

The kids and I had previously gotten him 2 new pairs of shoes and a belt that were supposed to be for his birthday. But I have this problem with gift giving. You see, I feel that a present shouldn't be something that the person needs and would have gotten even if it hadn't been their birthday. His Sunday shoes had big holes in the soles and his belt was too small. So that present didn't really count.

Kelly and I came up with a joint present. She got him a dart board for his office and I got him some cork to back the board so he wouldn't have to patch up the holes later. I had to re-arrange the office so that there would be an unobstructed space big enough for the dart board and the dart score board that we already had. So in addition he got a freshly cleaned, re-arranged and organized office. It was a big fat pain to move all the furniture around by myself, especially since I had to take all the books off the book shelf. And I was hurting pretty bad later that evening from all the heavy lifting that I probably shouldn't have done. But it was worth it. I think he likes it and it makes a good distraction for when he needs a break from doing homework. Also, my mom and dad got him a piggy bank with 30 gold dollars in it. That was kind of fun. The money is supposed to be for downloading music.

Then on Friday night we went to see Inception at the movies and went to Claim Jumper for dinner. We blew our wad for the month going out, but if you can't be frivolous on your birthday when can you be? We so rarely get to go out that we had a really nice time. Even if it was 115 degrees outside.

There are some more pictures of Benjamin falling asleep. From the pool to our house is about 1/2 a mile which makes the car ride all of about 30 seconds. Of course he fell asleep in that 30 seconds and then was un-wake able. Alan just laid him down on the floor and he slept like a zombie. His eyes were half open but trust me, he was out like a light. He must get that whole sleeping with the eyes open thing from his uncle Greg. Kinda creepy!
