Need your oppinion!

Alan broke the camera at scout camp. I don't know how it happened and neither does he, but it just stopped working. So no pix today. But we are going to get one sometime before our trip to UT/WY. Can't go on holiday without a camera! Luckily my mom paid me to paint her house last week, so we have a little extra $ to set aside for such a frivolous necessity.

Alan has come to the conclusion that he is going to start school in January. He is committing himself to it. So one or both of us need a job. I love subbing but the work is so inconsistent that I can't rely on it to pay the bills. I have pretty much decided that while the bulk of my experience is in the recreation field, the pay is usually pretty crappy and the hours are worse. I don't want to spend that much time away from my family. So I have narrowed down my options. I can either try to find a job as a personal trainer to supplement the substitute teaching. (Between the two I may be able to come up with most of an income.) OR.......... get into real estate.

I know the market isn't at it's peak, but it is finally starting to rebound here. My agent stays very busy and is starting his own brokerage. He has offered to take me on if I am interested. Plus he would mentor me and show me the ropes. It is pretty in-expensive to take the classes and get licensed. This option isn't the route for instant money but it holds a much better potential for the long term. Plus, I think I would enjoy it. I just don't know if I am ready to start a new "career". When I left Brigham City Rec I figured that would be the end of my work outside of the home. If I get into real estate I actually have to try to be moderately successful. I can't treat it like Mary Kay (you know the "if I make money then great, if not oh well" attitude).

Of course being a real estate agent I can set my own hours and choose to be as busy as I want. If there comes a time when we don't need the money I can back off for a while. But still something like this signifies the end of stay at home mommy-hood for a while. Alan thinks I should do it, but I am still unsure. What do you guys think?

Do it! As Alan continues to look for work, and then begins classes in January, Real Estate sounds like a great way to get the income you need...plus some flexibility, which will be essential...especially when Alan starts school again.

Good Luck!

McKay wants me to get my license too. Here in Texas it is a law that one cannot buy or seel a home without an agent. No "for sale by owners" or the buyer doing thier own work. We found this out AFTER I had done all of the work. Anyhow, I think that it is a great idea. Have you looked inot the Military option though as well. From people I know that have done it, it is a great thing. I think we are going to take that route... no debt, officer pay during school, officer after greadution, "free" health care and with Obama President... no more war... (can i even say the word "War" or is it now "political disagreement)

My dad is an agent, and yes, when you make money, you do well. His advice to those thinking of joining the market is this - it is competitive and your family comes last...truth be told. If your client wants to hold an open house - you do it. That usually takes one or two of your days. Also, he said it really helps to be available full-time. So, it is up to you and your family but as a child of someone who supported the family; I never saw him between late nights and weekends showing homes or hosting open houses.

I think you could totally do it! You have a lot of knowledge about all the builders in your area. Good luck! (this is Callie but I'm at the Daniels)
